Wood to Aluminium Conversion for South African Homes

Replace your tired, rotting wood with sleek aluminium doors and windows that look better, last longer, and never need varnishing again.

A Smarter Replacement for Wooden Window Frames and Doors

Wood rot spreads quickly, and repairing or replacing damaged window frame or door sections is expensive and time-consuming. Once you factor in the varnishing, glazing putty, sealing, and the painting cycles year after year, wooden frames work out to be more expensive than aluminium over their lifetime. Aluminium has become the medium of choice for window and door frames across South Africa, in homes and businesses alike.

Sequ-Door specialises in full wood to aluminium conversions – from your front door to your patio sliders to every window in the house. We measure on site, manufacture to fit your existing or modified reveals, and install with minimal disruption to your interior and exterior finishes. The result is a stylish, lightweight, low-maintenance home that adds enduring value.

Why Traditional Options Fall Short

Wood

Beautiful when new, but wooden window frames and doors rot, warp, and need regular varnishing, sealing, and painting to stay watertight. Maintenance costs add up over time.

Steel

Steel frames rust, must be hand-painted, and rely on glazing putty that cracks and degrades. Modern aluminium offers a longer-lasting alternative without the recurring upkeep.

Generic Aluminium

Off-the-shelf aluminium varies widely in quality. Sequ-Door manufactures to AAAMSA specifications and glazes to SAGGA standards, independently tested for wind, water, and air performance.

Combine Style, Durability, and Performance

A Sequ-Door wood to aluminium conversion isn’t only about replacing tired frames. It’s about upgrading how your home looks, performs, and feels day-to-day.

Built to Outlast Wood

Aluminium does not rot, warp, or attract borer. Unlike wooden window frames, our aluminium frames are weather-resistant and stand up to harsh South African climates year after year.

Lower Maintenance, Lower Lifetime Cost

No more varnishing, sealing, or repainting cycles. Our aluminium door frame and window frame finishes are powder-coated for long-term colour retention. A quick wipe with soapy water is usually all that’s needed.

Sleek, Modern Aesthetic

Slimmer profiles let in more natural light and modernise the look of older homes. Standard colours include Bronze, White, Charcoal, Black, and Silver, with a full range of non-standard and custom colours available – including wood-look finishes.

Warmer Inside, Less Noise, Less Dust

Old timber frames swell, shrink, and develop gaps that let heat, noise, and dust straight through. Modern aluminium frames are precision-manufactured with proper seals and weatherstripping, so your home holds its temperature better in summer and winter, stays noticeably quieter against street noise, and lets in far less dust through the gaps. Pair with Low-E or double-glazed glass and the gains are even bigger.

FAQs

What does a typical wood to aluminium conversion involve?

We start with an on-site measurement, then manufacture your new aluminium doors and windows to fit. On installation day we remove the old wood, prepare the reveal, fit the new aluminium frame, glaze it, and finish neatly against your interior and exterior surfaces.

In most cases, yes. We work with your existing reveals wherever possible and only modify or widen them when there is a need for a functional design change.

Upfront, aluminium can sit slightly higher than budget wooden installations. Over the lifetime of the frame, however, aluminium is more cost-effective once you factor in varnishing, glazing putty, sealing, and the painting cycles that wood requires.

Our standard range includes Bronze, White, Charcoal, Black, and Silver. We also offer a full range of non-standard and custom colours – including wood-look finishes if you want to keep a warmer, relatable aesthetic.

Yes. Frame profiles, colours, and finishes can be specified to suit anything from contemporary architecture to heritage-style homes, including wood-look options.

Sequ-Door holds both manufacturing and installation AAAMSA accreditations, and all glazing is installed in line with SAGGA standards. SAGGA Glazing Certificates are availabe on every applicable installation.
